In CFRW Conferences
TCRWF member Alma Clements reporting…. Thursday, 9/5/24Left Red Bluff at 8 a.m. to meet our Region 2 Director Colleen Waugh in Chico.  We shared the 6 hour ride to Bakersfield where I kept Colleen busy answering my many questions. Upon arrival at the Bakersfield Hilton, Colleen prepared for her 6 p.m. Executive Committee meeting and I spent the next two hours working on a Tehama County Voter’s Guide. Friday, 9/6/248:30 a.m. Got a ride with Colleen to the movie theater.  Watching the REAGAN movie together was the first activity to kick off the conference.  I bought an extra large popcorn and shared as people entered. Later I purchased the book referenced in the movie, that deeply impacted the young Ronald Reagan. THAT PRINTER OF UDELL’S by Harold Bell Wright. I am happy to loan it to anyone who wants to read it. 1-2 p.m. Lunch back at the hotel. Chicken caprese sandwich, pasta salad and cheesecake! I didn’t know anyone at my table (all presidents of their clubs and all very friendly).  I met leaders from Tustin, Yorba Linda, West Orange County, and Mid-Peninsula. 2-4 p.m. Mark Standriff with The Leadership Institute presented the training “Patriot’s Push to GET OUT THE VOTE”. Leadership Institute is a wonderful organization that will readily come to your area to present free training for your group.  They also have extensive online training and zooms that are easily accessible to all. www.leadershipinstitute.org He started out by announcing that former California Democratic majority leader, Gloria Romero, had just announced she was switching to the Republican party and would be voting for President Trump in November! Some takeaways; crafting a winning message, is it more important to win the argument or win the vote? People go with their gut, connect with their values. Don’t lead with policies and facts, create messages that focus on personal values.  Most important question in politics, why? Why are you running?  Why should I vote for you? Why are you better than the others? 5:30-7:00 p.m. Dinner and speaker KEN KHACHIGIAN, speechwriter for Presidents Nixon and Reagan, veteran of nine presidential campaigns, Director Emeritus of the Nixon Foundation. He wrote the question Reagan used in his speech, “Ask yourself if you are better off today than you were four years ago?” While a student at U.C. Santa Barbara, he met his future bosses Reagan and Nixon. Ken did not want Nixon to resign and returned to California with him after he was fired from the White House for being a loyalist.  He and Diane Sawyer were among the researchers for Nixon’s memoirs. Ken said to throw away the “stupid” Frost/Nixon movie. Ken feels he dodged a bullet at the assassination attempt of President Reagan, as he usually would have been there. “People don’t like to listen to advice today.” Reagan and Deukmejian were always open to advice. Author of BEHIND CLOSED DOORS; IN THE ROOM WITH REAGAN & NIXON.   Saturday, 9/6/248:30 a.m. I dropped off the gift basket I had made to donate on behalf of Tehama County Republican Women Federated.  All clubs are requested to bring a basket for fund-raising, and I put together an Election Headquarters basket valued at $115 that was later won by Ingrid Lake, Region 4 Director. 9:30 a.m. President Lydia Kanno officially called to order the CFRW Board of Directors meeting. She read her inspiring President’s message (see photo).Bakersfield Mayor Karen Goh gave a rousing speech, making it clear she is a true patriot. Bakersfield, the 9th largest city in California, that feeds the world and produces “black gold”. Their city hall displays “In God We Trust” and is the home of the country western group the Smokin’ Armadillos. On the agenda were many business items. Bunny Hackler, Recording Secretary, reported there were 104 members present. Gail Rego, Membership Secretary reported there were 197 new members who joined during July and August. TCRWF won the Summer Membership award for 1-50 Member category! The Keep 9 resolution was presented and adopted. Mary Ervin, 3rd Vice President, had the unpleasant job of updating us on the ongoing litigation with impeached CRWF president Janet Price.  The next court date in this expensive lawsuit is on 11/12/24.The Board of Directors meeting was adjourned at 10:10 a.m. Next was speaker Corrin Rankin, Vice Chairman of the California Republican party, She gave a spirited speech starting with the good news that the Republican party is now the 2nd largest party in California.  “Every single county has increased  the number of registered Republicans” causing the GOP to overtake Independents in the number two position. She also celebrated the number of prominent Democrats who are leaving their party, such as famous attorney Alan Dershowitz. 30% of Latino women are leaving the Dems.  20% of Asian voters nationwide are joining the GOP. She credits Governor Newsom for helping to increase the number of conservatives because of  his many bad decisions. Just before 11:00 a.m., Protocol Chairman, Colicia Palmer, introduced speaker Cynthia Zimmer, the Kern County District Attorney. She was a dynamic speaker who gave a compelling rundown of political decisions made since 1975 that have led to today’s multiple problems with crime, homelessness and drug use. She discussed Governor Jerry Brown, Part One and Two, Governor Schwarzenegger, and the fact it was then Attorney General Kamala Harris who named Proposition 47 the Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act”. “It is no coincidence that today California has the weakest drug laws and the highest homelessness.” Lunch break from 11:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Box lunch with delicious sandwiches, chips, and cookies. Columnist Susan Shelly gave a talk on “The Persecution of Donald Trump”, (Be sure to send Dinesh DeSouza’s documentary by the same name. It is not playing in Red Bluff or Chico, but you can watch it right now at Redding Cinemark.) Sadly I missed all of her talk as I was being dressed and accessorized for the Member Spotlight. Member Spotlight. This is a new and fun addition to conferences that is used to get to know members from all the regions.  Today there were 9 representatives who modeled clothing and accessories sold by the conference vendors.  Narrator Candice Burroughs, 1st Vice President, gave a running commentary with bios provided by each member.  Region 1 – Mary Grove  Club – Marin RWF I’m a lifelong Republican. I’m president of the Marin Republican Women Federated. I have a booth because I am an independent Business Owner. My two current favorite books are Hillbilly Elegy and Good Energy! I taught in the California Public Schools for 44 years…  teaching all K-8 grades except fourth.    I’m a descendant of the Mayflower. I have one 15-month-old grandson. Currently we are writing postcards to undecided (low propensity) voters in two counties in Wisconsin.  Who wants to help?    Region 2 – Alma Clements Tehama County RWF Having missed an invitation to attend a Tehama County RWF meeting with a friend who later told her it was boring, Alma  went the following month on her own and found it was just what she was looking for…a place to help her community combat societal problems that are a result of our liberal government.  Alma is active in after school bible clubs, and serves as a CASA (court appointed Special advocate) – ask her about it!.  In the 2.5 years from her first meeting until now she has been a regular attendee of monthly meetings and organized Flag Day events and MELP book projects.  Alma will be a member of the Red Bluff Union Elementary School District board of trustees beginning 12/24.   Region 4 – Deene Souza – Visalia RWF In 2016 Deene became involved in Visalia RWF at the encouragement of her mother who was petrified that Hilary Clinton would become President. “If you don’t start caring about what is going on in this world, your future grandchildren will grow up messed up! She attended her first meeting the day after Trump was elected at immediately became involved. Ladies you will find Deene very personal and outgoing so much so, that she shared a Hotel story with a stranger in an elevator at the OK NFRW meeting,  the man in the elevator happened to be Gordon Chang, an expert on China and the keynote speaker of the day.  They have bonded and she continues to exchange well wishes and local information on agricultural issues as she sees them in the Central Valley – Ask her about her elevator story – it will make you chuckle!  Deene continues to be at the heart of the Visalia RWF Club.   Region 5 – Jennifer Jones – Semi Valley RWF Jennifer joined the Semi Valley RWF in 2019 and immediately immersed herself in helping elect Congressman Mike Garcia and was 2nd in charge of his volunteers in Semi Valley and Porter Ranch. In 2020 she was the Official Trump Neighborhood Team Leader.  In May 2022 she had a major auto accident that caused permanent damage to her spine.  She still loves campaigns and does what she can, especially now that she a stay at home mom following a career of being a paralegal for a couple of high action Criminal and Immigration Attorneys.  She spends her time reading, walking her dogs and going to beach as often as possible.   Region 6 – Cheryl Sullivan – Conoga Park West Hills RWF Cheryl has been a member of the Conoga Park West Hills RWF since 1998 and is the current club President.  She has held this office 8 times, been newsletter editor, leg chair and secretary over the years.  Her pet project is “My Stuff Bags”,  a program started by Radio Show Host Dr. Laura Schlessinger.  The RWF has worked in concert with the  Woodland Hills Woman’s Club on this project for over 20 years.  After an announcement on the radio from Dr. Laura one time, over 5000 quilts made by the Latter Day Saints arrived.  Another time a company donated thousands of neighing toy horses.  The sounds of whining horses were heard until all were delivered to needy children.  Cheryl is true example of what Republican women do for the community. Region 8 – Becky Whitener – West Orange Couty RWF Becky is from Cypress and a member of one of our newer Clubs – West OC RWF where she has been a member for 3 years.  She joined the club because she wanted to help make a positive difference in OC while banding together with like-minded women.  She currently is the Treasurer and loves to participate in Republican rallies for candidates and positive issues aligned with Republican Values.  In addition to her envolvement in RWF she volunteers with Keep Cypress United and the Cypress Senior Center.  She especially enjoys planning community events, traveling and going to amusement parks with her son to ride roller coasters.  Meet Becky Whitener   Region 9 – Michelle Rotsheck – Carlsbad RWF CFRW 4th VP Michell Rotsheck comes from Del Mar and joined Carlsbad RWF in  2013. She is the mother of 2 with her daughter attending her first year at her alma mater, Point Loma University. Michelle received her undergraduate degree in business and went on to The Gemological Society of America where she became a certified Gemologist.  Now this lady knows about “A Girls Best Friend -Diamonds!  When not working at her shop - Golden Eye Jewelry in Del Mar or volunteering, she enjoys walks on the beach with her family and their Corgi – Kirby. After a short break, we reconvened at 1:20 p.m. to get legislative updates and a run down on the propositions we will be voting on.  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Fr2_IO2HE4k&list=TLGGno8QC4yxHrwwNDEwMjAyNA&t=9s&pp=2AEJkAIB Then we watched a series of short videos by today’s RNC Young Guns, candidates in this election. Scott Baugh, 47th Congressional District, Matt Gunderson, 49th, Kevin Lincoln, 9th, and Congressman Mike Garcia, former Young Gun and candidate for 27th district.  They are all great but I was really impressed with Stockton native Kevin Lincoln, Marine, Pastor, Mayor. www.kevinlincolnforcongress.com At 3:04 p.m. we heard from Bryan Anguiano, the California Director for Team Trump. www.trumpforce47He told us how the last three voter reports show Republican increasing registered voters while Democrats are decreasing. “A sophisticated ground game WILL change the outcome of a close election!” He shared the details of making critical phone calls to every state through TrumpForce47.  These are calls to low propensity voters, or voters in swing states. Your personal phone number is not shown, provided is an easy to read script and prompts will guide you through every call. Please consider trying this. Congressman Vince Fong, 20th congressional district, was next. He was very down to earth and supportive of Republican Women. The 5 W’s. When women work, we win! The national polling is skewed, state by state polls favor Trump. The Steve Garvey race will be very close. If Kamala flounders, we may see Dems ditch funding from her to use in the California races. Newsom and allies working hard to defeat Prop. 36.  Kevin Kiley doing a great job antagonizing him. BREAK     At 6:30 p.m. doors opened for dinner during which we enjoyed hearing from Tom Del Beccaro. Former chairman of the California GOP, acclaimed author, speaker and publisher. He gave a synopsis of his book “The Lessons of the American Civilization” which I eagerly purchased after the meeting.  Please feel free to borrow it or buy your own. Tom actually ran against Kamala Harris for Senator.  Her cackle is definitely her “tell” he says. She seems to find it difficult to lie to someone’s face and does so only when she looks away or at her notes. He is a history buff and much of his book centers on how our government began, and showing crisis by crisis how it changed. “Once power is gained, it is not easily given up.” “Big government makes big deals then big drug companies decide more than voters do.” “What is not taught in the schools I forgotten in the culture.”Check out his YouTube podcast . https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lL0Ue5fxYHw&pp=ygUURGVsIEJlY2Fycm8gYW5kIEhvb2s%3D He quoted Benjamin Franklin “It’s a Republic, if you can keep it.”  If YOU can keep it. He knew the leaders would not and it was up to We the People.   Thank you CFRW for another fantastic and informative conference.  See you In January 2025.
